Wooden StairsWhen refurbishing or decorating a home, it’s usually the kitchen, lounge or bedrooms that receive all of the attention. Often the hallway and stairs are one of the last areas to be considered and tackled but they can be completely transformed by choosing the right flooring.

The stairs in a great many houses are by, or in sight of, the front door. They are therefore the first thing that you and your guests see when they come into your home. Taking time to think about how you want to decorate your stairway and set the tone for your home, is therefore time and money, well spent.

We think that there are three main ways you can dress your stairs with the right flooring, hard wood, carpet runners and fully carpeted. We’ll look at each of them here to help you decide what’s best for your home.

The technology behind the production of carpets, vinyl or wood flooring is also continuously being improved and tweaked. Manufacturers are constantly researching how they might make a flooring more resistant, easy to maintain or produced in a more environmentally friendly way, whilst colour palettes and style of flooring also evolves each year with culture and fashion.

How to Keep Wood Floor in Peak Condition

Wood flooring is a beautiful and smart way to finish your home or office, but there are some key things you can do to look after it so that it will continue to look great and last many years.

There are two ways of having ‘real’ wood flooring. Solid wood and engineered wood. Solid wood is made from a single piece of wood, whilst engineered flooring is built with different man-made layers with the final top layer being solid wood.
